The Neurosurgical Service has undergone extensive and thorough reorganization in both the clinical and research arenas, in order to offer the highest level of care expertise in the field of neurosurgery. As a nationally recognized medical center, we are dedicated to providing compassionate, skilled and state of the art medical care. Our goals also include participating in high quality basic, translational and clinical research programs.

Perhaps one of the greatest accomplishments so far, has been reaching the goal of establishing and creating of the Department of Neurosurgery. Although Neurosurgery did well for many years as a Division of the Department of Surgery, becoming a department will give us the flexibility, control and ability to attain further growth, development and creativity. I think that this accomplishment speaks loudly as to the strong support given to Neurosurgery by the entire institution here at the Heath Science Center.

The faculty members are notably the driving force behind this outstanding department, with special training in the areas of pediatric neurosurgery, neurooncology, vascular neurosurgery, stereotactic neurosurgery, neurotrauma and critical care. Our research efforts are headed by highly funded NIH scientists. Our mission of training highly skilled neurosurgeons are being met through our accredited neurosurgical residency program.

We have significantly expanded our clinical, administrative and research facilities. I am very proud and excited about our accomplishments and a very promising future.
